Angry Scalia DOMA Dissent Quote of the Day

Angry Scalia Quote of the Day
“It is one thing for a society to elect change; it is another for a court of law to impose change by adjudging those who oppose it hostes humani generis, enemies of the human race.
When the Court declared a constitutional right to homosexual sodomy, we were assured that the case had nothing, nothing at all to do with ‘whether the government must give formal recognition to any relationship that homosexual persons seek to enter.’ Now we are told that DOMA is invalid because it ‘demeans the couple, whose moral and sexual choices the Constitution protects,’ ante, at 23 — with an accompanying citation of Lawrence.”

Hillary Clinton: I hope we have a woman president in my lifetime (Video)

I think we know that the only way that will happen is for Hillary to run:
“Let me say this, hypothetically speaking, I really do hope that we have a woman president in my lifetime,” Clinton told a private audience in Toronto. “And whether it’s next time or the next time after that, it really depends on women stepping up and subjecting themselves to the political process, which is very difficult.”

Mika Brzezinski Apologizes For Being an Idiot (Video)
Posted on 11:15 AM by Unknown
Not really, she merely makes a lame attempt at an apology for failing to do her job, i.e. failing to find out something about the show's guest before the show airs.
Last week, Russell Brand, frustrated by a segment he was doing on Morning Joe, hijacked the session to deliver an impassioned critique of cable news’ focus on minutae rather than substance. Now, Mika Brzezinski, who was hosting the segment solo at the time, has apologized in a way that produces some insight into why she was so disastrously, insultingly off her game. She apparently hadn’t bothered to find out who Brand was before he came on her show.

NSA Wiretapped Obama In 2004? (Audio)

Snowden inspires a Bush-era whistleblower to come forward:
"Here's the big one ... this was in summer of 2004, one of the papers that I held in my hand was to wiretap a bunch of numbers associated with a 40-something-year-old wannabe senator for Illinois," he said. "You wouldn't happen to know where that guy lives right now would you? It's a big white house in Washington, D.C. That's who they went after, and that's the president of the United States now."

Sexist GOP Idiot Says Man's Brain Is Superior (Video)
Posted on 10:29 AM by Unknown
Sexist Quote of the Day
"Because if you listen to the debate today, in my mind — a man’s mind — I hear two fundamental issues. From the other side of the aisle, I hear the conversation being about: free. ‘This is free, we need to take it, and it’s free. And we need to do it now.’ And that’s the fundamental message that my brain receives. Now, my brain, being a man’s brain, sort of thinks differently, because I say, well, it’s not — if it’s free, is it really free? Because I say, in my brain, there’s a cost to this."

Glenn Greenwald on Patriot Act Gone Wild (Video)
Posted on 12:17 PM by Unknown
Glenn Greenwald on MSNBC's Morning Joe Scarborough show explaining that the White House talking points are "completely misleading and false." And the Patriot Act has gone wild, beyond even the authors' intentions, under the Obama Administration. As usual, Mika Brzezinski spouts White House talking points:
“Nobody had any inkling that the government would ever use the Patriot Act not to target specific individuals and say there’s reasonable basis or probable cause to believe there’s wrongdoing — but to use the Patriot Act to say, this entitles us to collect records for every single American regardless of whether or not we’ve done anything wrong.”

Whistleblower Edward Snowden to Seek Asylum From 'Repressive' U.S.
Posted on 11:30 AM by Unknown
It's come to this:
Rather than face charges in the United States, Snowden has fled to Hong Kong. He plans to seek asylum in a nation with a strong civil liberties record, such as Iceland. Americans are familiar with stories of dissidents fleeing repressive regimes such as those in China or Iran and seeking asylum in the United States. Snowden is in the opposite position. He’s an American leaving the land of his birth because he fears persecution.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) Opposes Pay Equity Because Women ‘Don’t Want The Decisions Made In Washington’
Posted on 12:30 PM by Unknown
Why are so many U.S. Congresspeople insane?
Marsha Blackburn strikes yet another blow against equality:
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) offered an odd view on women’s paycheck fairness and equity laws on Sunday, suggesting that federal legislation on workplace equity is condescending to women who are well-qualified for the workplace....
Blackburn has historically opposed legislation that protects women’s rights — usually under the guise that such laws are congressional overreach, affect too many groups, or hurt businesses. She voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which gives women more latitude to sue companies for workplace discrimination, as well as the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2009, which bars employers from arbitrarily paying employees less on the basis of gender and forces them to use legitimate reasons such as education or past experience. In February, Blackburn also voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, citing concerns that the law would protect “different groups” such as Native American women and LGBT Americans from domestic violence alongside straight, white women.

Nashville T-Mobile Accused of Pregnancy Discrimination
Posted on 12:51 PM by Unknown
T-Mobile Nashville appears to be guilty of pregnancy discrimination. And yes, pregnancy discrimination is illegal. Talk about a cheap company. And dangerous to the health of women and their babies.
The Nashville T-Mobile call center forced this pregnant woman, and god knows how many others, to get a doctor's note to go to the bathroom and then to clock out whenever she did!
“If a pregnant woman is the only employee being forced to clock out, and they don’t require males or non-pregnant females to do so, it would seem to me that would be pregnancy discrimination.”
Just the kind of stress a pregnant woman needs.
Why would anyone buy a phone from an anti family company like T-Mobile?
Mom's Rising Org: Why I Believe in Paid Sick Leave:
My supervisor said if I had a medical necessity to use the toilet, I should go get a note from my doctor. And my doctor thought I was crazy. She told me, “I’m sure one person going to the toilet wouldn’t mean the collapse of an entire T-Mobile customer service center!”
... After a long consultation with H.R. to make sure it would be air tight, I got the doctor’s note, so I was free to go to the bathroom whenever I needed. But T-Mobile was absolutely not going to pay me for going to the toilet. So every time I needed to go, I had to clock out and lot out of the system. Then I had to write it down and turn it into resource planning – just to make sure it I wasn’t gone an unreasonable amount of time!
... I would sprint – as much as a heavily pregnant woman can — between my desk and the bathroom to make sure I squeezed every second I could out of my work day. Everything I did was scrutinized. I felt picked on. Someone was always watching over my shoulder, monitoring my performance. . .
Finally one of my doctors told me that she was putting me on full FMLA. It was all too much. I still wasn’t eating, drinking and using the toilet like I was supposed it. I was getting sick. My blood pressure was sky high. I was stressed about the possibility of losing my job and my health insurance. I wanted to tell my story because this is why paid medical and sick leave is so important. No one should have to go through what I did.

"It's a Crickett," he said. "It's a little rifle for a kid. ...The little boy's used to shooting the little gun."

Elizabeth Colbert Busch brought up Mark Sanford's infamous affair during last night's debate to the evident delight of the audience. Mark Sanford responded like the idiot he is.
Watch it in the 31 second video clip below.
Politico:
Sanford spoke repeatedly about his extensive efforts as governor and House member to cut wasteful spending. Colbert Busch then turned to Sanford and delivered this zinger:
“When we talk about fiscal spending and we talk about protecting the taxpayers, it doesn’t mean you take the money we saved and leave the country for a personal purpose.”
“She went there, Governor Sanford,” one of the debate’s moderators responded.
With much of the crowd hooting and hollering, Sanford seemed shaken.
“I couldn’t hear what she said… repeat it, I didn’t hear,” he said.
“Answer the question,” Colbert Busch interjected.
“What was the question?” Sanford said, appearing stunned.“Ok, but anyway, ah ah, on the sequester, I’ll go back to the sequester…”

Tennessee Lawmakers Hope to Hurt Poor Families With Drug Test
Posted on 12:17 PM by Unknown
The state of Tennessee already treats poor women and children like they are garbage. Ever vigilant, our legislator creeps have found yet another way to inflict pain and misery.
As usual Tennessee lawmakers are targeting the most vulnerable Tennesseans with hostile and punitive legislation. This latest will attempt to deprive poor families of help via TANF by requiring drug tests.
The expressed hope of the heartless soulless Republican lawmakers is to spend money on drug tests instead of helping poor families survive hard times.
The hope is not to treat the disease of drug addiction, the hope is to avoid helping poor families:
"Tennessee’s sponsor for the drug law, Sen. Stacey Campfield, R-Knoxville, said he’s not discouraged by what’s happening in other states, and he would consider the law successful if it drove down the number of applicants simply because they knew they would be tested."
And these are people who say they believe in heaven and hell. Obviously that is just one more effing lie. There are no words for the depravity of our so-called 'leaders.'
The state of Tennessee loathes helping poor families as it is, even though the paltry monthly TANF benefit is low enough to make Ebenezer Scrooge proud.
A similar law is being challenged in Florida because it is unconstitutional. Waiting for the state of Tennessee to be sued as well.
In Tennessee, the maximum monthly benefit for a parent and 2 children with no income is 185 lousy dollars.
Yeah, the state of Tennessee is ruled by freaking christian zealots whose first priority is harming poor folks. Churches should deny them entrance.
