Angry Scalia DOMA Dissent Quote of the Day

Angry Scalia Quote of the Day
“It is one thing for a society to elect change; it is another for a court of law to impose change by adjudging those who oppose it hostes humani generis, enemies of the human race.
When the Court declared a constitutional right to homosexual sodomy, we were assured that the case had nothing, nothing at all to do with ‘whether the government must give formal recognition to any relationship that homosexual persons seek to enter.’ Now we are told that DOMA is invalid because it ‘demeans the couple, whose moral and sexual choices the Constitution protects,’ ante, at 23 — with an accompanying citation of Lawrence.”

Hillary Clinton: I hope we have a woman president in my lifetime (Video)
Posted on 9:07 AM by Unknown
I think we know that the only way that will happen is for Hillary to run:
“Let me say this, hypothetically speaking, I really do hope that we have a woman president in my lifetime,” Clinton told a private audience in Toronto. “And whether it’s next time or the next time after that, it really depends on women stepping up and subjecting themselves to the political process, which is very difficult.”

Mika Brzezinski Apologizes For Being an Idiot (Video)
Posted on 11:15 AM by Unknown
Not really, she merely makes a lame attempt at an apology for failing to do her job, i.e. failing to find out something about the show's guest before the show airs.
Last week, Russell Brand, frustrated by a segment he was doing on Morning Joe, hijacked the session to deliver an impassioned critique of cable news’ focus on minutae rather than substance. Now, Mika Brzezinski, who was hosting the segment solo at the time, has apologized in a way that produces some insight into why she was so disastrously, insultingly off her game. She apparently hadn’t bothered to find out who Brand was before he came on her show.

NSA Wiretapped Obama In 2004? (Audio)
Posted on 9:53 AM by Unknown
Snowden inspires a Bush-era whistleblower to come forward:
"Here's the big one ... this was in summer of 2004, one of the papers that I held in my hand was to wiretap a bunch of numbers associated with a 40-something-year-old wannabe senator for Illinois," he said. "You wouldn't happen to know where that guy lives right now would you? It's a big white house in Washington, D.C. That's who they went after, and that's the president of the United States now."

Sexist GOP Idiot Says Man's Brain Is Superior (Video)

Sexist Quote of the Day
"Because if you listen to the debate today, in my mind — a man’s mind — I hear two fundamental issues. From the other side of the aisle, I hear the conversation being about: free. ‘This is free, we need to take it, and it’s free. And we need to do it now.’ And that’s the fundamental message that my brain receives. Now, my brain, being a man’s brain, sort of thinks differently, because I say, well, it’s not — if it’s free, is it really free? Because I say, in my brain, there’s a cost to this."

Glenn Greenwald on Patriot Act Gone Wild (Video)
Posted on 12:17 PM by Unknown
Glenn Greenwald on MSNBC's Morning Joe Scarborough show explaining that the White House talking points are "completely misleading and false." And the Patriot Act has gone wild, beyond even the authors' intentions, under the Obama Administration. As usual, Mika Brzezinski spouts White House talking points:
“Nobody had any inkling that the government would ever use the Patriot Act not to target specific individuals and say there’s reasonable basis or probable cause to believe there’s wrongdoing — but to use the Patriot Act to say, this entitles us to collect records for every single American regardless of whether or not we’ve done anything wrong.”

Whistleblower Edward Snowden to Seek Asylum From 'Repressive' U.S.
Posted on 11:30 AM by Unknown
It's come to this:
Rather than face charges in the United States, Snowden has fled to Hong Kong. He plans to seek asylum in a nation with a strong civil liberties record, such as Iceland. Americans are familiar with stories of dissidents fleeing repressive regimes such as those in China or Iran and seeking asylum in the United States. Snowden is in the opposite position. He’s an American leaving the land of his birth because he fears persecution.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) Opposes Pay Equity Because Women ‘Don’t Want The Decisions Made In Washington’
Posted on 12:30 PM by Unknown
Why are so many U.S. Congresspeople insane?
Marsha Blackburn strikes yet another blow against equality:
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) offered an odd view on women’s paycheck fairness and equity laws on Sunday, suggesting that federal legislation on workplace equity is condescending to women who are well-qualified for the workplace....
Blackburn has historically opposed legislation that protects women’s rights — usually under the guise that such laws are congressional overreach, affect too many groups, or hurt businesses. She voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which gives women more latitude to sue companies for workplace discrimination, as well as the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2009, which bars employers from arbitrarily paying employees less on the basis of gender and forces them to use legitimate reasons such as education or past experience. In February, Blackburn also voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, citing concerns that the law would protect “different groups” such as Native American women and LGBT Americans from domestic violence alongside straight, white women.
